Jatiya Party conference postponed ‘without prior discussion’, two co-chairmen ‘surprised and concerned‘
The 10th National Conference of the Jatiya Party (JP) was scheduled to be held on June 28 at the Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Center in the capital. The JP announced the postponement of the conference in a press release on Monday. JP senior co-chairman Anisul Islam Mahmud and co-chairman ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader have alleged that party chairman GM Quader postponed the conference without any discussion with the presidium members. In a joint statement sent to the media on Tuesday, Anisul Islam Mahmud and Ruhul Amin Howlader said, “This decision is completely undemocratic and undesirable to us. Taking such an important decision unilaterally is against the party constitution, the honor of the presidium and the aspirations of the grassroots leaders and workers. We are surprised and deeply concerned by this decision.”

Taking such an important decision unilaterally is against the party constitution, the honor of the presidium and the aspirations of the grassroots leaders and workers. In the statement, they said, “We believe that the national conference on June 28 is very important for the party. Anisul Islam Mahmud and ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader said that on May 20, the Jatiya Party Presidium meeting unanimously decided that if the allocated conference venue is not available for any reason, the national conference will be held in an open space in front of the party’s central office on Pioneer Road in Kakrail in the capital. That decision is still valid.
These two senior leaders of the Jatiya Party hope that the Jatiya Party Chairman will respect the constitution and the decision of the presidium and ensure the organization of the 10th national conference in front of the party’s central office as an alternative venue on June 28. They said that the Jatiya Party is a democratic party. Respect for the constitution and the practice of internal democracy should be their main strength to move forward.
